James C. Puffer, MD is a professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Kentucky School of Medicine in Lexington, Kentucky. He currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM), which is located in Lexington, Kentucky. Dr. Puffer is an internationally recognized expert in sports medicine, having served as Team Physician for the 1984 United States Winter Olympic Team and Head Team Physician for the 1988 United States Summer Olympic Team. He served as Team Physician for the UCLA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics for over twenty years before assuming his current position at the ABFM.
