Southern Diabetes Initiative Learning Objectives: 

  • Better identify and screen individuals at risk for developing diabetes, in order to increase early diagnosis and intervention, particularly among populations at greatest risk for diabetes and comorbid disease
  • Apply updated evidence-based guideline strategies to screen and treat obesity in patients with diabetes, while considering clinical, ethnic, and cultural factors that may impact management
  • Develop guideline-based treatment goals that best meet the individual needs of patients with diabetes and cardiometabolic issues, in order to reduce risks and improve patient health outcomes
  • Distinguish among available, newly approved, and emerging diabetes therapies, used alone or in combination with other antihyperglycemic agents, with regard to efficacy and safety, in order to appropriately establish treatment regimens that best manage glycemic challenges, mitigate cardiometabolic issues, and achieve therapeutic goals
  • Implement individualized, evidence-based strategies to overcome barriers to initiate and intensify insulin therapy, alone or in combination with other antihyperglycemic agents, in patients with T2DM who have failed to meet therapeutic goals
  • Apply current evidence and proven clinical strategies to reduce comorbid cardiovascular risks and complications of diabetes, including hypertension, dyslipidemia, and coronary artery disease

Claim Credits

Pri-Med's credit award procedure has changed. Please follow these instructions for evaluating and requesting continuing education credit for sessions you attend at this Pri-Med meeting:


1. Obtain your conference badge. Proceed to the Registration Area to receive your badge. You will need to scan your badge at the Registration Area upon arrival every day of the conference to verify your attendance. Scanning your badge will allow you access to the evaluation system and to request credit.

Important: be sure to scan upon arrival as the evaluation site is timestamped. 

2. Go to to access the online session evaluation and credit request system. You can use any computer or Internet interactive device to complete the evaluation and credit request process. You have five days to complete the process—until Monday, October 2, 2017.

A. Enter your badge number and email address located on your badge for identification.

B. To evaluate each session, select the day, then the session title, and then complete the evaluation. When you have evaluated the sessions you attended, evaluate the overall activity.

C. Designate the type of credit you seek. Then check the box above the statement that attests the sessions that you attended. 

3. Receive your credit. View and print your certificate right from the evaluation website. Your certificate will also be posted to your Pri-Med.com account the next day.
